Master of Teaching / Education

Program Overview

This degree is ideal for individuals looking to become accredited teachers or progress in the education sector. The program covers pedagogical theory, curriculum design, classroom management, and practical teaching placements. Streams include Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Teaching.

Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to 5 Years)
The Early Childhood specialisation within the Master of Teaching prepares students to work with children from birth to five years old in preschools, kindergartens, childcare centres, and early-learning environments. This stream focuses on early childhood development, play-based learning, early literacy and numeracy foundations, community engagement, and inclusive practices to support children’s wellbeing and growth. Students learn to design developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster creativity, communication, and social skills. Through supervised placements in early-childhood settings, graduates gain practical skills and become qualified early childhood teachers, ready to guide young children through their most formative years.
The Primary Teaching specialisation equips students to teach children in Grades 1 to 6 across all key learning areas, including English, mathematics, science, humanities, arts, and health and physical education. The program develops skills in curriculum planning, differentiation for diverse learners, classroom management, and assessment strategies aligned with national education standards. Students complete professional experience placements in primary schools where they practise delivering engaging lessons, supporting student learning, and managing real classroom environments. Upon completion, graduates become eligible for teacher registration and are fully prepared to begin rewarding careers as primary school educators.

The Secondary Teaching specialisation is designed for students aiming to teach in secondary schools, typically from Grade 6/7 to Grade 12. This stream combines advanced subject-specific training with adolescent development, secondary pedagogy, curriculum design, and behaviour-management strategies. Students specialise in teaching subjects such as mathematics, science, English, humanities, languages, arts, or physical education—depending on their previous academic background. Through supervised placements in high schools, students gain real-world teaching experience and develop confidence in working with teenage learners. Graduates emerge qualified to teach in junior and senior secondary classrooms, inspiring students through their specialist subject expertise.
