Master of Professional Accounting

Program Overview

Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is a postgraduate degree designed to develop both technical expertise and strategic judgement in accounting for graduates from accounting and non-accounting backgrounds. You’ll study core areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, taxation, economics, law and information systems while engaging in practical, industry-aligned learning through case studies, work-integrated or capstone-style projects. The program is aligned with Australia’s Accounting Qualifications Framework (AQF Level 9) and meets accreditation criteria for professional bodies such as CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ), and the Institute of Public Accountants. Depending on the university, MPA programs may offer flexible durations (e.g. 1.5-2 years full-time), part-time or online options, and may allow recognition of prior study or work experience to reduce course length. Upon graduation you’ll be eligible to apply for associate membership of major professional accounting bodies and pursue roles such as Accountant, Auditor, Financial Analyst, Tax Consultant or Manager within corporate, public or non-profit sectors both in Australia and globally.
